Pfwarrr- Is It the Clogs?

THE HAGUE Maybe it's those wooden clogs. Whatever, the reason: the Dutch have Europe's worst feet and they don't care who knows it, says a study widely reported in the Netherlands recently. More than half suffer from athlete's foot and similar mycotic ailments, nearly a quarter are flat-footed or have corns, 14 percent have deformed toes and eight percent have warts.

In all, 65 percent of Dutch have a foot problem of some sort, compared with the 56 percent average for the rest of Europe, according to the Achilles Project study. But unlike other nations, the Dutch don't particularly care who knows. Only ten percent prefer to keep their problem feet covered up, compared with an average 32 percent elsewhere in Europe. The Achilles Project study is based on interviews with and examinations of nearly 100,000 people in 15 European countries, as part of the current Week of the Foot. (DPA)
